Momoland History

Momoland（Korean: 모모랜드 ) is a Korean girl group formed by MLD Entertainment (formerly Duble Kick Company) and was debuted on November 10, 2016.

Momoland was formed through the survival program, “Finding Momoland” on MNET in 2016.

10 young girls need to take on different missions and strive to the opportunity to debut, and Yeonwoo, Hyebin, Jane, Nayun, Joo E, Ahin and Nancy were selected from the ten members.

On March 28, 2017, Daisy, who was eliminated from “Finding Momoland”, joined to Momoland.

On April 10, 2017, Taeha who joined the PRODUCE 101, ex STARSHIP Entertainment trainees, also becomes part of Momoland.

Origin of Momoland name

The first part of their name, MOMO, comes from the 1973 German novel called “Momo” by Michael Ende, in which the main character named MOMO, gave people hopes and dreams. While the second part of their name, “land” meant a place where people could go, play, rest, just like an amusement park.

Momoland official fan name is called “Merry-Go-Round (merry for short)”.

Therefore, their name is like an amusement park theme and its goal is to provide hope that people of all ages and gender could enjoy their music and show their various sides.

On August 26, 2016, in Mnet survival program “Finding Momoland”, failed to complete the final task, because the Final Mission could not collect 3,000 spectators, only able to gather about 2,300 spectators on the scene to participate, so the official debut was delayed for a while to prepare for their debut.

On January 11, when the song “BBoom BBoom (뿜뿜)” gained the first place on “M Countdown” for the first time since Momoland debuted, the title track “BBoom BBoom (뿜뿜)” becomes popular.

On January 26, “BBoom BBoom (뿜뿜)” breaks into the Billboard’s “World Digital Song Sale Chart” at the fourth place, Billboard introduce their song as “unexpected growth” and praise that “BBoom BBoom (뿜뿜)” was the first song on the Billboard list for women’s group and a good sign for the song after that.
